Top 3 Ways Beautycon 2018 Diversified the Beauty World

Top 3 Ways Beautycon 2018 Diversified the Beauty World

Beautycon 2018 has been lauded as one of the most exciting and diverse events to happen this year. We are especially pumped to see new up and coming minority artists get exposure for their brand!

“Our mission at Beautycon is to make sure we are always representing our audience, mirroring back to them what they bring to us in support, meaningful connection, and community," said Beautycon CEO Moj Mahdara. It is not surprising that the organization is always looking for ways to make sure every identity is represented.

Here are the top 3 efforts so far that Beautycon has made to diversify and expand the beauty world:

  1. BET X Beautycon

This year, for Beautycon New York, Beautycon and BET Style hosted their first event together. Celebrities and makeup artists such as Zendaya, Danielle Brooks, Tokyo Stylez and Mario Dedivanovic (to name a few) appeared on the pink carpet in April to take part in the festivities. Beautycon and BET Style helped produce 52 video tutorials for women of color. Shedding light on people of color in the beauty industry is quite a “#gamechanger,” in the words of BET Style. We hope to see more partnered events in the future!

   2. K-Town X Beautycon

Beautycon also debuted a special section in their festival called K-town, a collection of our favorite Korean cosmetic brands. Brands such as AMOREPACIFIC, LANEIGE, and Mamonde were featured in this section. Beautycon is helping to create a larger platform for cosmetic lines created by minorities, and to promote them at an established global event. Additionally, Korean-American social media mogul and fashion model, Irene Kim, launched her fashion line exclusively at Beautycon. She also spoke on a panel about the challenge of being a minority in the beauty world. Beautycon’s effort to give a platform to Korean cosmetic lines as well as to empower Ms. Kim’s business shows their dedication to inclusivity.

3. Panty Fresh X Beautycon

It’s often hard for entrepreneurs to get their feet off the ground without the proper marketing and a good support system. During this year’s NYC Beautycon, entrepreneur Neda Shilian proudly displayed her product for people who menstruate, Panty Fresh. PantyFresh is a product for anybody who wants to remain feeling hygienic while menstruating and traveling. Each package includes panty liners, seamless underwear, a fresh wipe, and a wash me bag--all small enough to keep in your back pocket or purse! Thanks to Ms.Shilian’s hard work and Beautycon’s promotion of small brands, we can look for Panty Fresh online or in stores. And, maybe sometime soon, we can partner up with Panty Fresh to get some more nude colors available! We’re excited to see what women entrepreneurs will be featured at next year’s beautycon.

All in all, Beautycon is doing a fantastic job to diversify the booming beauty world! See you in 2019, Beautycon!
